Tarahumara fashion Pot With Stretched Sinew Vintage, A Mexican Tarahumara pot with stretched sinew The pot is traditionally wrapped with sinew for protection Some.
A Mexican Tarahumara pot with stretched sinew. The pot is traditionally wrapped with sinew for protection. Some of the unpainted clay has made it way to the surface giving this pot a great deal of character. There is a chip on the top lip, I'm not sure if that is not part of the original pot when it was fashion fired. This Mexican pot would an excellent addition to any collection.
Created by the pinch and coil method, Tarahumara Indian pots are made by hand without a wheel. The pot is formed by hand coiling clay for the shape of the vessel, then polished with a smooth stone. A great part of today's Tarahumara traditions relate back to those learned from the Jesuit missionaries during the almost 150 years they lived together in colonial times. Tarahumara Indians are from the Copper Canyon region of Mexico.
